About us

Youth Online is designed for young people in Kenya to campaign for change; to raise public awareness; to express young people's views; to entertain and to help share in the benefits of the digital age.

The organization's main activity is to build websites for the youth and their groups. The sites will showcase high quality digital artwork which reflects the ideas and experiences of young people whose voices are rarely heard in the mainstream media. The site provides a platform for these young people to communicate directly with their peers, adults in decision/policy-making positions and the general public.

The project is managed by Youth Online (K). The organization's workers use discussion and group work to generate ideas about the content and style of the pages each group wishes to create. These ideas are then developed, through storyboarding and sketching. Participants have an opportunity to try their hands at photography, writing and sound recording to produce the 'artwork with a message' for their pages. They also get hands on experience of the design software and some of the young people involved are getting further training in website design so they can be involved in the post-production of their pages.
